Perfect Party Punches for Kids

You’ve been online and chosen the kid’s party supplies that are perfect for your child’s big bash. You’ve planned the games, shopped for the food and even taken the time to order some great children’s party favours as well. There’s just one thing left; what are they all going to drink.

Heading to the supermarket and filling a trolley full of cans or bottles of pop can get super expensive very quickly (so blowing all that cash you saved on buying kid’s party supplies online right there) A great alternative? A tasty kids punch. Everyone will remain ‘properly hydrated’ and, if you try your hand at one of these fun recipes they are likely to be entertained and/or amused as well.

Harry Potter’s Butterbeer

Have some Harry Potter fans on the party guest list? Then they’ll love this punch that was inspired by the very beverage that Harry and Co loved to sip on their big trips to Hogsmeade.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup light or dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 6 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar
  • 1/2 pint heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon rum extract (which is not alcoholic!)
  • Four 12-ounce bottles of cream soda

How to Make Harry Potter’s Butterbeer

Brown Sugar Syrup

In a small saucepan over a medium heat, combine the brown sugar and water. Bring to a gentle boil and cook, stirring often, until the mixture reads 240 degrees on a candy thermometer.

Stir in the butter, salt, vinegar and 1/4 of the heavy cream.

Set aside to cool to room temperature.

Once the mixture has cooled, stir in the rum extract.

Whipped Topping:

In a medium bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar mixture and the remaining 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Use an electric mixer to beat until just thickened, but not completely whipped, about 2 to 3 minutes.

To serve, scoop a tablespoon of Brown Sugar Syrup into each glass and then each glass nearly to the top with cream soda, before spooning the whipped topping over each.
