The Future is BRIGHT for the Balloon Industry & Balloon Artists!

As many of you know, I’ve always been a bit edgy and challenging in my approach, but both history and my actions clearly show that it has always been with the best interest of our industry at heart. Over the years, many who once criticised my stance have come back to me admitting,”George, you were absolutely right; we just didn’t want to hear it at the time.”

My only “crime” has been telling the truth. For over three and a half decades, I’ve often challenged the decisions and actions of manufacturers, wholesalers, and organisations. I know the truth can be hard to accept, but it’s essential for our industry’s growth and integrity. I admit, I can be a bit like Marmite—you either love me or hate me. But as one of my mentors always said, “If you don’t have people who dislike you, you’re not growing or working hard enough. Success will bring critics.”

Now, let’s turn to the current situation. The recent closures, failures, and restructuring of certain manufacturers, has led to a boom for many wholesalers and retailers. Even those who were struggling a few months ago, are now seeing promising upturns in their business. This dynamic isn’t new to me; it’s something I’ve championed long before many of you were part of this industry but The Future is BRIGHT for the Balloon Industry!

My belief has always been crystal clear: manufacturers should focus on manufacturing, wholesalers on supplying retailers and retailers on serving the end customer. This division of roles not only strengthens the bonds within the industry but also drives business growth for everyone involved.

Over the past few weeks, GO International has been busier than ever. This surge in demand has been challenging, but thanks to our incredible team, we’ve managed to rise to the occasion. Their dedication and hard work have been nothing short of extraordinary, and it’s because of them that we’re thriving during this period.

Looking ahead, I believe we’re on the brink of an amazing time for our industry. Opportunities abound for those who adapt and seize the moment. You may even start to see helium prices falling in the next few weeks! We must also acknowledge those who have lost their jobs due to the manufacturers’ shortcomings. It’s a reminder of the importance of each link in our supply chain performing their roles effectively.

Do we think manufacturers will learn from this? It would be nice to think so. However, only the other week, we discovered a manufacturer we had been loyal and supportive of, decided to leapfrog us and sell straight into one of our buying groups, without so much as a courtesy phone call. Ignorance? Arrogance? Stupidity? Greed? I’ll let you decide.

There is a valuable lesson for all of us: When we find a good client, we support them, encourage them and help them grow. What we NEVER do is try to take their business away from them. Great wholesalers, just like you, are independent business owners and entrepreneurs, who understand the value of exceptional service. So, when you find an outstanding wholesaler, cherish that relationship. Work with them, protect them, promote them, and appreciate them. In return, you will receive all the support you and your business need to thrive.

Please, let’s learn from the current situation. When manufacturers start knocking on your doors to deal directly and I have no doubt they will, remember what it led to. Our strength lies in respecting the roles of each player in our industry.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
